In a season of bounty and a plentiful harvest, why not give something special to the D&D fan in your life, especially if they’re your duet partner!
In this post, I cover five of my favorite gifts at the moment, perfect for both DMs and players. There will certainly be another of these closer to the holiday season, but, in my family, we start Christmas shopping early, so I thought I would share some of my recent research!
5. Ambient Sounds for your DM: Syrinscape
I came across this app when I was looking at Beadle and Grimm’s shop (more on that below), and we’re trying it out in our game right now.
They have the first officially licensed D&D soundtracks, and we’ve had a lot of fun playing around with the different possibilities so far! There’s specific music for the storyline of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, which we’re playing through in our group game.
You can purchase individual tracks or pay for a monthly subscription. The D&D subscription is $7.15/month, which you’ll pay bi-monthly at $14.30, and you’ll get to keep any new D&D and fantasy soundtracks that are released during your active subscription!
4. New Merchandise for the Critical Role fan
We love Critical Role, though we’re both behind in the current season. However, as fans of the show will be aware, there was a wedding held last night (Aug 29) for the heroes of Season One: Vox Machina!
Gorgeous Rings
To celebrate, they’ve released some really gorgeous pieces in the Critical Role store! Vex’s wedding ring is my personal favorite, though Percy’s is also very attractive.
All the d20s!
You can also get a set of d20s specific to Vox Machina, with one d20 per character!
3. New Campaign Books
Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus
Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus* releases on September 17th, so if your DM hasn’t pre-ordered a copy and you’re interested in a hell-bound campaign, now is the time!
Eberron: Rising from the Last War
Those looking ahead to Christmas will note that the campaign guide to Eberron is coming out November 19th, which is really exciting! I love the blend of fantasy and technology, and I think Eberron will be intriguing and bring lots of new elements to the table!
This special cover is only available from independent gaming stores. You can follow this link to the Wizards of the Coast website to find one near you!
Dungeon Mayhem Expansion
Also releasing on September 17th: an expansion to Dungeon Mayhem! We love this little card game, and it’s a great way to casually and quickly introduce someone to D&D, especially if you don’t have time for an RPG session.
The main set of Dungeon Mayhem cards has a rogue, wizard, barbarian, and paladin, and the new set adds a druid and a ranger—yay!
2. Immersive Props
There are so many incredible props for players and their characters across the wonders of the internet, and I couldn’t possibly cover them all here, so we’ll just mention a few for now, and I’ll plan a custom character gifts post for later on in the season.
Rue Adventuring Company
We love Deven Rue’s work! Her maps are gorgeous, and some of her lovely illustrations grace our website pages! She’s also generous, welcoming, and passionate about creating an immersive experience at the table.
As part of that project, she’s developing Rue Adventuring Company, and the pieces so far are incredible! I’ll show you my three favorites.
Pocket Compass and Sundial
Each of these items could be described as super functional and super cute. And immersive may be a better word than functional, but that all depends on what you’re doing at the table!
I love the idea of getting to use the compass and sundial during game play to RP finding your way through an environment, especially one that’s relatively unknown to your character.
Brass Sextant with Box
For pirates, cartographers, and fans of Ghosts of Saltmarsh, this antiqued sextant is available for pre-order now and will begin shipping October 1st.
Mini 6” Spyglass with Box
Deven has a larger spyglass option, but I love this one and its box! I especially think these three would look great together, sitting to the side of your table or serving as paperweights for a map, perhaps?
And, if you haven’t checked out The Cartographer Ranger Archetype on DMsGuild, the custom subclass co-created by Deven Rue and Hannah Rose, you absolutely should!
Beadle and Grimm’s
You may be aware of Beadle and Grimm’s super fancy and fantastic platinum boxes for campaigns with extensive, high-quality props and additional materials to add to your campaign experience.
But if the larger boxes are a bit out of your price range, you can still get some cool props from the “warehouse” part of their store! We’re still in the early stages of our Waterdeep campaign, but each of our characters are settling into one of the guilds around town, so I’ve been thinking about getting each of us a pin for our particular affiliation!
My character, Persephonie, is being inducted into an off-shoot of the Emerald Enclave, and their brooch is so pretty!
We’ve just joined the Harpers in recognition of our service to the city!
And I though that these “dragons,” Waterdhavian gold coins, might make for a nice gift for Jonathan, our DM!
1. Fall Scents from Cantrip Candles
Autumn is my favorite season of the year, and anything that allows me to embrace and celebrate it more fully, I’m on board for.
We are also really huge fans of Cantrip Candles! They’ve added so much to our games, and I also use the Library Scriptorium candle as part of my writing process for the novel I’m working on!
I was ecstatic to find out that there would be two new scents released this fall, Coffee Shoppe, and Autumn Festival!
Coffee Shoppe
Our Waterdeep characters have just opened a coffee shop of their own, Liff’s Haunt, so please stop by and visit if you’re in town! We have a ghost bartender, a good friend of Aelutena, our resident monk, and Persephonie would love to grow some flowers just for you! Fji, our College of Glamour bard, will hopefully be gracing our stage with her presence very soon!
Autumn Festival
Fans of pumpkin spice lattes, fallen leaves, and apple cider will be delighted with Autumn Festival! And Coffee Shoppe, in addition to the delicious scents of roasted coffee, also has notes of chocolate and cream!
The candles are available in the 6 oz. tins, and you can buy the set for a discount!
Comments? Questions?
I hope this gifts post has been fun and enjoyable for you! I love buying presents for people, and D&D makes that expression of care and thought really easy but also creative!
One of the things I love about this hobby is the flexibility in terms of pricing: you can spend as much or as little as you like, really. Maybe you’re saving up for something big or don’t have spare cash at the moment.
Never fear! There are lots of DIY options as well, such as re-inking dice to customize something special for your partner in one-on-one play! Maybe don’t re-ink their favorite dice without asking, and try to practice on ones that don’t matter as much first!
Are there any fabulous fall gifts you’re hoping to receive or thinking of getting for someone in the next few months? Also, please let us know if this is helpful and if you’d like to see more posts like it!
