Get your gaming materials ready! We are thrilled to announce that our first duet adventure is now available for download on DMs Guild!* It’s Pay What You Want, so it will be easily accessible for everyone. However, if you’d like to support our blog and further duet-adventure-writing efforts, please pay for your copy.
“First Blush” is a two-to-four hour adventure for a first-level character and their DM.
Adaptable for any campaign setting, “First Blush” invites you to teleport your way out of the confines of a castle to an ancient mountainside ruin with a secret buried deep inside that your unique destiny invites you to uncover…
If you’re new to D&D, this is a great starting adventure, as it lets you practice lower-stakes social and combat encounters that culminate in a higher-stakes situation.
If you’ve been playing for a while, or forever, you’ll still find a fun and engaging adventure that encourages the collaborative world-building that makes duets so special.
The adventure includes:
- stat blocks for NPCs and creatures you’ll encounter along the way
- a region map
- DMs overview map for the dungeon
- three ready-to-print (or display on a large tablet) dungeon maps for the player
- a printer-friendly version
- and three character sheets, complete with backstories, to use as-is or as a jumping off point for creating your own
We’re so excited to be sharing this with all of you, and we can’t wait to hear what you think! Please leave us a review on DMs Guild, or get in touch with us here. And look out for more adventures from us in the future!

Yay, that’s amazing! First, thank you so much! We really appreciate it, and we hope that you enjoy the adventure! Please let us know how it goes! We have some really cool ideas for the second one; I think it’s just going to be a matter of narrowing things down. We’ll keep you posted!

My girlfriend and I are thinking about getting into D&D, and the idea of a ready to play Duet adventure seems like a great place to start! I just wanted to ask, will we need the D&D Rulebook or the Player’s Handbook to play this? Or is it an entirely self-contained adventure and suitable for complete beginners to start learning the game without other D&D materials?
Thank you in advance, and we look forward to trying it out!

Hi Mike,
First, that sounds awesome, and we’re so happy that you’re going to try out First Blush! Please let us know what you think and if you have any questions along the way! We don’t work through every single thing about how to play in the adventure, though it does cover the types of rolls the DM will ask for and includes character sheets so you can easily get started.
However, you won’t need to purchase any of the books just yet as the vast majority of the how to play basics are available online for free! I’ll include two links below, both to the System Reference Document [SRD], so you’ll have a few options to choose from for what’s most manageable and convenient for you. And you won’t even need all of the material included there, so don’t feel obligated to read the whole thing before playing!
To that end, there are lots of videos online that walk through how to play for people who want to learn, so I would suggest clicking around on YouTube till you find one that suits you. We’re hoping to make a video ourselves for how to play specifically for a duet game, and you’ve given us some extra things to think about including, so thank you!
My number one tip for someone who’s just starting, whether as a player or as a DM, is that almost always, when you’re trying to roll something, pick up your d20 first. When you’re rolling damage, for example, you’ll use a different die, but the d20 still comes first. I know that may seem really simple, but not having to ask “Which dice do I roll?” can be really nice!
Here are the links to the SRD:
D&D Beyond has it broken up: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
And Wizards of the Coast has it all in one document: https://media.wizards.com/2016/downloads/DND/SRD-OGL_V5.1.pdf
Please let me know any follow-up questions you have! I’m so excited for you both!

I recently purchased First Blush from the DM’s Guild. I am preparing to run the adventure using Fantasy Grounds. Thanks for including a “mod” file in the bundle. What is the scale of the map of the map of The Lonely Hold? The text indicates that the chasm is 20 feet wide. On the map, it is about two squares wide. That gives me a scale of 10 feet per square. However; that makes the desk 30 feet long and the doorways 10 feet wide.
Beth says
Hi Bruce,
We usually use five feet per square so I understand the confusion. I would keep the 10 foot scale for the upper floor of the hold and just have a longer desk/table and large doorways so the PC feels like they’re walking into a grand space.
Thanks for your question!
